Friday, September 08, 2006

OpenSUSE 10.2 Alpha 4 has been released. It now uses an updated Linux kernel and offers a choice between KDE 3.5.4, GNOME 2.16 (2.15.92), or Xfce 4.2.3 desktop environments. Announced on September 7 by distro maintainer Andrea Jaeger, the release features the following key improvements:
  • KDE now uses the new kickoff menu

  • finished integration of X11 R7.1

  • further refinement of patterns used in the package manager for grouping of software

  • started removal of unneeded SuSEconfig scripts

  • no reboot after CD1

  • YaST runs during installation in a window

Download the ISOs at the main downoad server, or a mirror, or the 3.3 GB X86 DVD torrent file.
